Description
MC-Master Back is a closed-cell polyethylene backing rod that complies with ASTM C1193 Type A.
Where to use
Used as sealant backing material for vertical and horizontal concrete joints.
Advantages
Easy to use and eliminates the need for a bond breaker. Controls sealant depth and shape in the joint. Permits full sealant wetting of the substrate surface when tooled. Acts as temporary weather protection when conditions are unsuitable for immediate sealant application. Suitable for use with most sealant materials. Available in diameters from 5 to 50 mm. Resists permanent deformation before and during sealant application. Does not absorb liquid water or gas. Does not emit gas under mild heating. Capable of supporting sealant in traffic areas.

Method statement
Joint preparation: clean and rake the joint to the full width and depth required for installation of the joint-seal materials. Surface cleaning: thoroughly remove dust, paint, oil, grease, water and foreign matter. Primer: prime surfaces when rrecommended by the sealant manufacturer. Sealant backing: proper selection and use of backing is important to ensure good function. MC-Master Back should be selected with a diameter approximately 25-35% greater than the joint width.
